Online classes do not involve any face-to-face interaction. Even if your learners turn on their cameras still, it can never be the same as offline interaction. Hence, this is one of the reasons why many students get distracted or lose interest in between online classes.
If you’re struggling with how you can make your online classes more engaging and interactive then don’t worry. Because we have got your back!
As in this blog, we are going to share some of the fun activities for online classes that you should definitely conduct to give a good learning experience to your students.
So, without further ado, let’s get started!
Fun activities for online classes
One of the best fun activities for online classes is to conduct quizzes. Ask questions from your students and tell them to jot down their answers on a sheet of paper. After dictating one quiz, you can ask them to share their answers using the webcam.
If you teach school-going kids, you can ask questions like name any two zoo animals and if you teach college students, ask questions like name top 5 YouTubers. In short, ask questions according to the students so that they can tell you the answers.
If you think that you are running out of questions or you are not able to think about the questions that you should ask then do your research. Collect questions from multiple sources like Google or YouTube.
Give two mins time after each question to your students to think and write down the answer. Once the time is over, ask them to show their copies or sheet on the webcam. If their answers are correct, give them points. If not, give them a zero.
Listen and draw
Find an image on Google and tell about it to your learners but don’t show the actual image. Tell them everything that you see on the image and ask your learners to draw it on a sheet of paper.
Once you have shared everything that you have seen in the image, give two mins to your learners to give it a final touch. Then ask them to click a picture of their sheet and upload it on the public forum that you have created. See their pictures one by one either on the same day or the next day. Laugh with them and discuss what went wrong.
Give a round of applause to the students who are very close to the image that you were talking about. And in the end, show your students the picture that you wanted them to draw. Believe it or not but this is one of the best fun activities for online classes because it will make your students think and use their creative side.
So, if you have not done this activity before, try it now.
Moreover, if you have not created a public forum or if your online course platform doesn’t offer this feature, we would recommend you to sign up on Graphy. Because you will be able to create course-wise forums for your learners within your Graphy platform itself. And apart from the fun activities for online classes, you can also interact with your learners in the public forum and solve their academic and non-academic problems.
Dive your class into two or three groups. Give a name to each of the team and create separate rooms for them on the Zoom call. Give a movie name to any one member of each team. They will either do the hook-step of that movie or anyhow will make their team understand the name of the movie.
For example, you have created two teams A and B. Firstly pick team A and tell a movie name to any one member of the team. That member will perform and the rest of the team will guess the name of the movie. If they guessed correctly, give them a point otherwise ask B members to guess it. If their answer is correct then give them a point.
Honestly, this is one of the best fun activities for online classes. You should definitely conduct this in your class. Because it will help you improve your relationship with your students. Moreover, they will also get to see the fun side of their teacher.
If you are meeting your learners after a break let’s assume, summer break. Ask your students to share some facts about themselves. Some have them have to be true but not all of them.
Give them 5 minutes to think and then ask them to share their story in front of the class on the Zoom call. Once they are done with their story, the rest of the class will have to analyze if they are telling the truth or not.
Believe it or not but this is one of the best fun activities for online classes and you should definitely make time for conducting it in your online class. Moreover, this is not just a fun activity because it will help you to learn a lot about your students. So, without any doubt go for it.
Another fun activity that you could conduct in your online classes is the chain game. Ask any of your students to say a word. Then the next students will say another word that starts with the last letter of the previous one. For example, if your student said, excellent then the next student should say the word that will start with ‘t’. It could be anything but, it should start with ‘t’.
Apart from the fun, this activity will also help your learners in improving their vocabulary. Hence, you should definitely conduct this once in a while.
Make a story game
One of the most engaging and fun activities for online classes is to conduct a make a story game. To start this activity, utter a line and then ask your student to finish the line. This will continue till all the students have added one line from their end.
For instance, you can start with ‘once upon a time I went to the mall and from there, your learner will start. Once he/she finishes the sentence, the next student will add a sentence, and then the next. This will continue till each one of them has added a sentence.
To avoid any confusion, you can either create a list of your students and present it on your screen. According to the chronological order, they will have to unmute their mic and speak up.
Conduct this activity often in your online classes because this will help your learners to learn the art of storytelling which is very important.
To sum it up:
We understand that it is difficult to build engagement in virtual classes. Many learners feel left out or bored. Hence, to avoid such kinds of issues, conduct the fun activities that we have shared in this blog and give an amazing learning experience to your students.
Apart from this, we would recommend you to use an all-in-one course hosting platform like Graphy that will equip you with all the tools that you need to launch, grow, and scale your online teaching business.
